PROVENANCE:
Mrs Moyra Donald
Sale; Christie's, Glasgow, 10 December 1981, lot 66
Hunter spent a considerable amount of time in Fife throughout the 1920's, but the work completed in Largo was considered by Honeyman as among his best. This is archetypal Hunter, working en plein air onto unprimed panel after sketching the scene broadly in ink. They are succinct and fresh, and the exhibition of Fife pictures held at Alexander Reid's in Glasgow in 1923 was a great success.
Please note there is an Alexander Reid label fragment verso. The panel size is 20 x 29cm.
