The German theologian, astrologer and alchemist Agrippa was frequently declared to be a heretic and blasphemer due to his belief that the occult sciences were not demonic, but could be united with Christianity. This, his most important work, complete with woodcuts recalling Dürer's Meloncolia, sets out his opinions in full and greatly influenced later occult writers such as Giordano Bruno and John Dee.
