An Unusual Mediterranean Dagger
18th Century

With bright blade double-edged towards the point, cut with foliage along the back, and pierced with two panels of foliage, a star-shaped piercing between, the larger panel with monster-head finial, basal mount turned and chiselled with foliage, threaded grip of tapering diamond section veneered in tortoiseshell with moulded borders each set with a pinned white-metal strip, two with engraved monster-head terminal, pommel-cap and basal-mount each with foliate border, and opening to reveal the tang also forming a bradawl
