A Large Caucasian Kindjal
Russian Silver Marks For 1884

With broad tapering double-edged blade etched with scrollwork within the converging fullers over most of its length on each side, the forte struck once on one side and twice on the other with maker's mark inscribed 'Work of Ali' in thuluth script, and waisted hilt with ivory and dark horn grip-scales with slender nielloed silver grip-strap and mounts, the latter chased with foliate designs on the outside and comprising basal mount and applied oval between two large domed studs, in original wooden scabbard covered in brown leather with sliver locket, chape and suspension mount en suite with the hilt, the chape with large spherical terminal
