A French AN XII General Officer's Sabre
Early 19th Century

With curved fullered blade (some rust patination overall) double-edged towards the point and lightly etched with a martial trophy and foliage on each side at the forte, cast and chased brass hilt comprising rectangular quillon-block with a martial trophy on each side above a foliate langet, downbent rear quillon with lion-head terminal, knuckle-guard pierced with a loop at the top, tall pommel of cushion-shape at the top encircled by a wreath, and tapering dark wood grip diagonally fluted along each side, in original russet iron scabbard with brass locket, chape (dented) and suspension mounts en suite with the hilt, and with two rings for suspension
