A Cased Scottish Dress Snuff Mull In The Form Of A Powder-Flask
19th Century

With cowhorn body of curved flattened form with bevelled edges and set on one side with a silver mount embossed with rocailles and a thistle, hinged basal mount (button catch missing) cast and chased with thistles and set with a large piece of foiled faceted glass in imitation of a cairngorm, top mount formed as a large threaded thistle set with a foiled faceted piece of purple glass, thistle-shaped suspension mounts each with a suspension ring, and silver suspension chain and cord, the latter of red and green and complete with its tassels: in fitted mahogany case lined in red velvet, the exterior of the lid with flush-fitting folding brass carrying handle on a shaped plate engraved 'Hamsher'
