A Caucasian 28-Bore Miquelet-Lock Pistol
19th Century, Probably Daghestani

With twist barrel with sighting flat over most of its length chiselled with a gold-damascened fleur-de-lys at each end and with three slender gold lines around the muzzle, the breech with shaped panel damascened with gold arabesques and with circular proof mark and gold-lined maker's mark (gold incomplete), long silver-covered tang extending down the back of the butt, incorporating the back-sight and chased with nielloed foliage, characteristic lock damascened with silver foliage, Circassian walnut full stock with fluted fore-end (partly replaced), the butt set with lozenge-shaped panels each nielloed with foliage against a wrigglework ground and secured by small brass pins, rounded figured pommel with nielloed silver mounts en suite and later ring for suspension, trigger-plate and barrel band also en suite, silver-damascened faceted button trigger, and no provision for a ramrod
