A Sardinian 70-Bore Miquelet-Lock Gun, And A Turkish 28-Bore Miquelet-Lock Rifle
18th/19th Century

The first with slender tapering octagonal barrel, tang (bent), indistinctly signed lock sparsely engraved with foliage, full stock (fore-end damaged and incomplete, heel of butt damaged) with pinned steel plates along the fore-end chased and engraved with foliage, the butt (iron comb missing) with pinned iron panel beneath pierced with scrollwork, and iron border around the butt-plate pierced and chased with foliage, iron mounts comprising side-plate elaborately chased with foliage and with star-shaped piercings at the back, plain butt-plate, chiselled trigger-guard, and no provision for a ramrod (wear and rust patination overall); the second with russet swamped octagonal sighted barrel rifled with six grooves and retained by five brass barrel bands, plain tang and characteristic lock, Circassian walnut full stock (fore-end incomplete) with swelling faceted butt (damaged) encircled by a medial brass band (incomplete) between borders of brass nails and roundels of brass and dark horn (many missing), and button trigger (ramrod missing) (2)
