An Unusual Persian Steel Kulah Khud
Qajar, Late 19th Century

With domed skull decorated overall with panels of pierced scrolls and arabesques within gold-damascened borders and against a ground of red foil, three cartouche-shaped panels at the back involving gold-damascened Arabic calligraphy, the front embossed and pierced en suite to form a moustachioed demon's face, the rim bordered by ovoidal and circular panels chiselled with silver-damascened Arabic calligraphy, and enriched overall with numerous brass nails, fitted with two plume-holders, curved horns, central spike of diamond section, and adjustable nasal all with gold- and silver-damascened decoration, and vandyked camail of butted iron and brass rings
