A Cased Pair Of 16-Bore Gold-Inlaid Flintlock Pistols Of Elaborate Presentation Type With Silver-Gilt Mounts

With heavy round barrels flat at the top and profusely inlaid in gold throughout their length with swags, scrollwork, sunbursts, stars, trophies, and an urn, and each signed on a gold scroll, at the rear of each breech a gold-inlaid band of engraved foliage between a pair of engraved gold lines, gold fore-sights, gold-inlaid touch-holes, shaped tangs inlaid with gold trophies, flat bevelled locks each signed on a gold-inlaid scroll issuing from a trophy of arms and with gold-inlaid steel, cock, safety-catch, and stepped tail, the border of the lock-plates and steels all inlaid with a running wheat-ear design in gold, rollers, and gold-lined semi-rainproof pans, later full stocks (one butt repaired), cast and chased mounts decorated in high relief with trophies of arms and including spurred pommels, pierced side-plates, and vacant escutcheons, engraved silver-gilt ramrod-pipes, the rear ones decorated in relief with swags and a pair of crossed pennants, gold-inlaid barrel-bolts (one expertly replaced), ornate engraved silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, and later ramrods (some scattered minor surface pitting on the barrels, locks, and barrel-bolts, some screws replaced): in relined and refitted mahogany case with some accessories including rare four-way powder-flask covered with red leather, the interior of the lid with trade label of J.J. Vaughan Late Charles Vaughan, 39 & 40 Strand for circa 1845, the exterior with flush-fitting brass carrying handle, Tower private proof marks
