A Fine Cased Pair Of 70-Bore Rifled Percussion Box-Lock Pocket Pistols
By H. Bales, Ipswich, Circa 1830

With short turn-off barrels each engraved around the muzzle and breech, numbered respectively '1' and '2' at the breech and rifled with eight grooves, rounded breeches and actions, the former engraved with a differing trophy on each side beneath a raised lip around the nipple, the latter each signed within an oval against a martial trophy on both sides, dolphin hammers, blued folding triggers, figured rounded butts inlaid with silver wire scrollwork and engraved silver foliage, silver border engraved lion-mask butt-caps, silver escutcheons engraved with owner's monogram, and some original finish: in their fitted mahogany case lined in purple velvet with some accessories including brass-mounted three-way flask covered in red leather, the exterior of the lid (warped) with vacant brass escutcheon within a border of brass stringing, Birmingham proof marks
