A Singhalese Parcel-Gilt Mounted Kastana
Late 19th Century Or Later

With slightly curved plated single-edged blade, heavy hilt similar to the last and set with silver-gilt panels embossed and chased with scrollwork, the knuckle-guard (one panel missing) with applied gilt demon's mask on the outside, and large dragon-head pommel with garnet eyes and bared teeth (tongue missing), in original wood-lined silver scabbard embossed and chased with running partly gilt flowering foliage along each side, four fixed rings for suspension, and much original gilding (one quillon and one eye panel missing)
