A Singhalese Gilt-Hilted Kastana
Late 19th Century Or Later

With slightly curved singled-edged blade (polished bright, some pitting), heavy silver hilt comprising knuckle-guard and downturned quillons each terminating in a dragon's head in the round, the former hollowed on the inside and with applied gilt demon's mask on the outside, large dragon-head pommel with garnet eyes, bared teeth and protruding tongue, and decorated overall with cast and chased designs of scrollwork, in its silver scabbard cast and chased with scrolling foliage against a finely punched ground along each side, rounded chape en suite involving a monster's head on both sides, and four fixed rings for suspension
