An Indian Kard
Lucknow, 18th Century

With very finely watered slightly curved single-edged blade damascened with gold foliage (worn) around the pinched-in top, integral hilt damascened en suite, and tapering rounded silver grips finely chased and polychrome enamelled with flowering foliage inhabited by birds including waterfowl and birds of prey, one grip involving a stag and hind, in original wooden scabbard covered in green velvet (worn) with silver locket and chape enamelled with foliage en suite with the hilt, the former with small pierced suspension mount, the latter with bud-shaped finial (enamel partly incomplete and repaired)
