A Cased Set Of Match Rifle Sights
By George Gibbs, Bristol, No. B2002, Circa 1895-1900

The signed Vernier sight serial numbered to the rifle, the left side engraved with elevation scale and 'Radius 45 Inches', windage-adjustable fore-sight with spirit-level and barrel-clip, the fore-sight tunnel with three interchangeable elements stamped .03 to .05, a detachable hood, extra eye-piece, mounting screws, a rubber sleeve (perished), and retaining much original blued finish overall: in their fitted oak case (some pieces missing), the lid (minor splits) stamped with owner's initials 'R.G.H.'

Footnotes

The makers have kindly confirmed that the serial number corresponds to a batch of rifles built between 1895 and 1900, and that the sight radius of forty-five inches would suggest that they were designed for a Mannlicher Schöenauer match rifle
