A Very Rare Pair Of Sykes Patent Hammer/Magazine Primers And A Cased Set Of Spare Magazines
By Sykes, Probably Thomas, Circa 1820

The hammers of steel, each engraved with foliage and with chequered spur, rounded heads each inscribed 'Sykes Patent' and pierced to accept a six-shot magazine, the latter each acting against a spring and with knurled edge, cut for a turnscrew, and stamped respectively 'L' and 'R' (for left and right); the spare magazines (one missing) en suite, in original wooden case covered in red morocco with wooden tray cut to accept four examples and the tubular bone pellet holder with threaded cap, the interior of the lid with trimmed illustrated maker's label (3)
