An Indian Khanjarli
18th Century

With recurved sharply-pointed double-edged blade (old minor hole) with fluted medial ridge bordered by incised lines over most of its length on each side, the forte damascened with gold scrollwork and numbered '161' on one side, iron hilt damascened with gold foliage and scrollwork and comprising small ovoidal guard and knuckle-guard with stylised tiger-head terminal, and characteristically shaped ivory grip-scales and beaked pommel-scales, in original wooden scabbard (chape damaged) covered in green velvet with silver locket pierced and engraved with a running leaf design
