Two English Rowel Spurs
Early 17th Century

Of iron, the first with slender tapering upcurved heel-band of plano-convex section with figure eight terminals retaining their original hooks and buckle, and downbent neck of tapering diamond section with petalled rowel of five points, decorated overall in encrusted silver with pairs of cherub's masks, florets and foliage within punched line borders (some wear and pitting overall); the second of similar form, downbent crane-neck chiselled with an acorn, and later star-shaped rowel of five points (minor pitting, hooks and buckle missing) (2)
