A Postillion's Rowel Spur, And Four Pairs Of Various Spurs
The First Early 17th Century, The Remainder 19th Century

The first of iron and of characteristically large size, with slender tapering upcurved heel-band with figure-eight terminals retaining their original hooks and buckle for leathers, short downcurved neck, and star-shaped rowel of six points (some pitting); the second comprising a pair of Spanish rowel spurs of russet iron, each with integral leather-loop above the downcurved neck, the latter each with small rowel, a pair of boot spurs each with projection for fitting into the back of the heel, and round multi-pointed rowels, another miniature pair, of brass and possibly intended for a lady, and a pair of iron prick-spurs, each formed from a rough metal plate and with two spikes for attaching to the back of the heel (9)
