A Scottish Basket-Hilted Backsword
Second Quarter Of The 18th Century

With tapering blade (some pitting, cutting edge rust damaged) with narrow double fuller along the back for most of its length on each side incised 'Andria' and 'Farara' between 'S' and star marks towards the forte, iron guard of flattened bars framing fretted panels incised with lines and pierced with hearts and small circles, and with an oval aperture for the reins, fore-guards, small scrolled wrist-guard, bun-shaped pommel incised with vertical lines, and wooden grip (split), in its tooled leather scabbard (damaged and incomplete)
