A Scottish Basket-Hilted Broadsword
Late Quarter Of The 17th Century

With tapering double-edged blade (point reduced) incised with running wolf mark on one side towards the forte, the latter with central fuller on both sides with traces of 'Andrea Ferara', iron 'ribbon' guard of flat broad bars (damaged and incomplete) involving saltires and an 'S' on each side, rear guard of slender bars, rudimentary fore and rear quillons, globular pommel with button flat on top, and wooden grip (heavily pitted overall)
