A Rare Bavarian Combined Hunting Sword And Flintlock Pistol
By Blank A Nord, Early 18th Century

With straight tapering double-edged blade of flattened diamond section, flat disc guard of iron pierced and chiselled with foliage inhabited by a lion and a grotesque head, two-stage barrel signed along the top flat and turned at the girdle, the breech chiselled with a standing female figure against a punched ground, border engraved action, bevelled cock chiselled against a punched ground with foliage issuing from a grotesque head, back-strap chiselled against a punched ground with two birds and running foliate scrollwork involving grotesque heads, the slender knuckle-guard of circular section with central moulding, and moulded fruitwood grip carved with an animal-head pommel in the round
