The First With Shell-Guard With London Silver Hallmarks For 1741, The Second Mid-18th Century
The first with sharply tapering blade of hollow triangular section (some wear and light pitting), characteristic hilt comprising shell-guard cast and chased with shells and foliage against finely punched grounds, lobed rear quillon, knuckle-guard and globular pommel all with punched foliage against punched fishroe grounds, and swelling grip bound with twisted silver wire; the second of similar form, the hilt decorated overall with line engraved diamonds between lines of pierced dots, lobed rear quillon and knuckle-guard pierced and chiselled with foliage, and grip bound with brass wire (2)
