Jones patent rotary-underlever, rebounding backlocks with border engraving, percussion fences, well-figured stock with scooped face and chequered horn butt-plate, the rebrowned damascus barrels, later engraved J. Purdey, 314½ Oxford Street, London, with game-rib engraved similarly

The makers have kindly confirmed that gun no. 9639 was completed in 1877 for Viscount Kilcoursie

Sir Frederick Edward Gould Lambart, 9th Earl of Cavan KP PC (1839-1900)
An Irish peer, he served in the Royal Navy as a lieutenant, being present at the Siege of Sebastopol in 1854-55, the bombardment of Canton the next year and the attack on Peiho Forts in 1858. In later life he stood for parliament, with two unsuccessful attempts before being returned as MP for South Somerset in 1885, standing down at the 1892 general election. During his time in parliament he served as Vice-Chamberlain of the Household for the incumbent Liberal government, and was sworn as a Privy Councillor. He inherited the Cavan Earldom upon his father's death in 1887, and was invested as a Knight of St. Patrick in 1894. He was succeeded by his son, Field Marshal Frederick Rudolph Lambert
