A Victorian rosewood writing table

by Johnstone & Jeanes
The rounded rectangular top with moulded edge and brown tooled leather insert above a frieze drawer and dual ring turned end supports, joined by a turned stretcher, on downswept facetted legs, with brass cappings and castors, stamped to the top of the drawer, JOHNSTONE & JEANES, 67 NEW BOND STREET, LONDON, 99cm wide, 53cm deep, 72cm high (38.5in wide, 20.5in deep, 28in high).

Footnotes

The firm of Johnstone and Jeanes & Co was established in London around 1840 and traded from premises at 67 Bond Street. Johnstone was previously in partnership with Robert Jupe, circa 1835-40, who patented the Capstan extending dining table in 1835.
