Zuber and Company, the wallpaper manufacturer founded in 1802 by Jean Zuber in Rixheim, north-eastern France, has been trading successfully for over two hundred years. The firm's first panoramic wallpaper, 'Les Vues de Suisse', was produced in 1804. Twenty-five further panoramas including 'Zones Terrestres', 'Isola Bella' and 'Courses des Chevaux' followed over the next fifty-five years. 'Les Vues du Brésil' was created in 1829 by Jean Julien Deltil (1791-1863) after the German painter Johann Moritz Rugendas (1802-1858). It was produced in a number of editions through the 19th century. Still available in Zuber's current catalogue, it is one of the firm's most elaborate productions, being printed in 247 colours from 1693 blocks.
