A cold painted bronze figure of an Arab water carrier

the running figure carrying two buckets, on a naturalistic base, stamped to the underside with the Bergman monogram and GESCHUTZ, 16.5cm high

Footnotes

Provenance: This lot and the following three sculptures come directly from the descendent of the original owner in the 1920's. The present owners great grandfather was the owner of the William Owens department store in Westbourne Grove, which closed down at the end of the 1920s. He travelled extensively during the 1920's and 1930's and may have even purchased these lots directly from the workshop in Vienna, which would explain how he came to own two identical versions.
