Dumile was not a prolific sculptor mainly due to financial limitations and many of his pieces are missing due to his itinerant lifestyle. The above work was produced just before he represented South Africa at the 1967 Sao Paulo Biennale, a decision that was criticised by many of his contemporary artists.
