carved in old pine from a single block of wood, with bright finished topsides, painted black bottom, and mounted on a mahogany backboard with a Bakelite plaque inscribed "Jolly Roger".

The model is signed by B.B. Crowninshield on the back and retains a small paper label of where it was hung in the Crowninshield's house in Marblehead, Mass. The racing yacht Jolly Roger was designed by B.B. Crowninshield of Marblehead, Mass., and was a consistent winner during the 1900 season and in the end came down to Long Island Sound in search of new competition. Jolly Roger raced Johnston Da Forest's raceabout Scamp and defeated her in a best of three series sailed out of the Indian Harbor Yacht Club. She went on to sail against F.T. Bedford's Sis, a Herreshoff design, and Clinton Crane's Raider.
