Footnotes
The steam yacht Scythian was an American yacht active between 1883-1900. She had principal dimensions of 136.5ft LOA x 21.7ft beam, and weighed 250 tons. Built by Murdock and Murray in Glasgow, Scotland and used primarily for fruit transport, the steamer was acquired and retrofitted as a luxury liner by Mrs. Susan de Forest Parker. On June 6, 1900 the yacht burned and was badly damaged. It was later discovered that the ship's captain, Captain James Cardiff, had set fire to the vessel allegedly under instruction of the ship's owner's husband, Dr. Charles Thorndyke Parker. The allegations were never confirmed and the ship was abandoned to its underwriters.
