The neat, reeded border moulded with forty flutes, painted in very bright blue with a Chinese riverscape including a hut on an island with a tall pine tree, formal rocks and a short fence, two anglers in a sampan to one side, flocks of birds and a dark mountain peak in the distance, 23.8cm diam (minor rim fritting only)
Footnotes
Provenance: Simon Spero exhibition 2004, catalogue no. 43, one of a pair of similar dishes formerly in the John Pasquill Collection. This shape, with its forty-scalloped rim, corresponds with shards found on the Isleworth site. A printed dish of the same form is lot 104 in this sale. The heavily contrasted painting style, including cross-hatched shading, is typical of the earlier productions of this individual factory.
