A Worcester chestnut basket, cover and stand

circa 1770
Crisply moulded overall with an arcaded floret and trellis pattern, the twig handles applied with unusually elaborate modelled flowers and leaves, the centres of the basket and stand printed in blue with a flower and fruit spray from the 'Pinecone Group', simple painted cell borders, the stand 25cm wide, crescent marks (basket cracked, one handle lacking, some minor flower loss) (3)

Footnotes

It is unusual for a chestnut basket of this type to have no pierced decoration and this is more likely therefore to have been used for sugar or cream to accompany a dessert.
