Of baluster shape in the Meissen style, the flat cover with a partly open bud finial, printed in dark blue with the 'Man in Pavilion' pattern, a solitary figure in a square building looks out at a sampan on a river, 11.5cm high (restoration to neck, rim of cover and spout) (2)
Footnotes
Illustrated by Geoffrey Godden, English Blue and White Porcelain (2004), colour pl 41, and pl 192.
This shape of teapot is derived from a Meissen form (possibly via Chelsea). It is unusual therefore to find a Chinese pattern rather than European decoration on this particular shape.
