A Vauxhall mug, 1757-60

Of bell shape with a delicately turned foot, the scrolled handle with an upward-pointing thumbrest, painted in blue with a standing Chinaman holding a parasol, a boy fisherman seated at his side, the figures on an island or promontory with rockwork, a willow tree and a fence, a bird in flight above them, 12.5cm high (broken and restored)

The figure painting on this lot is unusually well executed when compared with most Vauxhall oriental figure painting
