Of gentle bell shape with a sharply turned foot, the plain loop handle flattened on the inside, painted in light blue with a continuous Chinese landscape, two houses supported on stilts before twin mountain peaks flanking a pagoda-like building, a sailing boat in the foreground and rockwork to the right, 7cm high (cracked and chipped)
Footnotes
Illustrated by Geoffrey Godden, English Blue and White Porcelain (2004), colour plate 46, p 174 and pl 223, p 183 (right) and by Massey, Marno and Spero, Ceramics of Vauxhall (2007), fig 130, p 78. A rare and early form, this cup exhibits a strong brown-red colour through transmitted light and forms part of a group termed the 'Atypical Translucency Group' by Massey, Marno and Spero, op cit, p 41. Here it is suggested that the group represents some of the earliest products of the factory.
