A Vauxhall teabowl and saucer, circa 1764

Thinly potted and of plain form, painted in bright underglaze blue and iron red and gold with a fisherman crossing a bridge between two islands, the details picked out in gold, the border with narrow blue panels alternating with much wider diaper panels in red, saucer 12cm diam (2)

A service of the same pattern is recorded with the inscription in gold 'IGE 1764', possibly to celebrate a marriage. A teabowl and saucer from the set is illustrated by Geoffrey Godden, English Blue and White Porcelain (2004), pl 231, p 187. A similar saucer is illustrated by Massey, Marno and Spero (2007), fig 165, p 90, shown alongside a related fragment from the factory site
