A rare New Hall teapot stand and a saucer, circa 1785

Printed in blue with the 'Gazebo' or 'Overhanging Rock' pattern, the overhanging rock finely shaded, within a border of leaves pointing into the centre of the piece, the rims picked out in light brown, the teapot stand of lobed circular form with lobed and corrugated sides, 14cm diam (rim chips), the saucer of plain form, 12.8cm diam (2)

Footnotes

This pattern occurs in two different versions, one with a pointed leaf border, the other with a floral border. In both versions, the overhanging rock is usually shaded but is left un-shaded on some pieces. The pattern is discussed by Geoffrey Godden, New Hall Porcelains (2004), pps 283-5. Pieces of this pattern sometimes bear the lion rampant mark, discussed by Geoffrey Godden, op cit, pps 285-287.
