The gold decoration uses the bright form of mercurial gilding that was probably introduced to Worcester by Charlotte Hampton in 1789, see John Sandon, Dictionary of Worcester Porcelain (1993), p. 190. A similar coffee pot, also with mercurial gilding, is illustrated by Geoffrey Godden, Caughley and Worcester Porcelains (1969), pl. 234.
