Attributed to the Calcut China Works, of plain shape and thinly potted, printed in blue with a very elaborate vase of flowers and an intricate border of formal overlapping flowers, a bee alighting on a further flower sprig on the reverse of the teabowl, the saucer 12.4cm diam, the teabowl 8cm diam (2)
Footnotes
The saucer is illustrated by Geoffrey Godden, English Blue and White Porcelain (2004), pl. 612. This pattern occurs on early John Rose porcelains from the Calcut period and continued on early productions at Coalport. The print was not found on the Caughley site, however, suggesting that an apparent pre-1796 example such as this, with strong Caughley characteristics, is likely to be from the short-lived Calcut factory.
