A Caughley shell shaped dish, circa 1776-80

The dessert dish with a crisply-moulded handle, painted in blue with fan-shaped and circular panels of Chinese landscapes reserved on a mottled powder blue ground, 19.4cm wide, painted C mark and also pseudo Chinese character mark (rim section restuck with associated chip)

Footnotes

Illustrated by Geoffrey Godden, English Blue and White Porcelain (2004), p.450-1, pls. 560 and 561. The pattern and also the painted Chinese style mark are copied directly from Worcester. The use of the early painted C mark in conjunction with this Chinese mark is most unusual at Caughley.
