A very rare Caughley small lipped bowl, circa 1780

The small, shallow bowl sharply flared at the rim, printed in blue with the 'Fence' pattern, a narrow tramline border inside the rim, 9.5cm diam, 4.5cm high, traces of printed S mark

Footnotes

Other Caughley lipped bowls are known, about the size of a teabowl with heavy feet, printed with the Fisherman pattern, see the Caughley Society Newsletter 17, 2004, p. 14. The present example is shallower and the potting is more delicate. Its intended function remains uncertain.
