Two large bowls, one Worcester, the other Caughley, circa 1785

The bowls of similar size and form, both printed in blue with the 'Fisherman' or 'Pleasure Boat' pattern, the interiors with the associated border pattern and a group of floating rocks in the centre, 21cm and 21.2cm diam, the Worcester bowl with crescent mark, the Caughley bowl with Sx mark (2)

Footnotes

These two bowls provide a perfect opportunity to compare the two factories' versions of the popular Fisherman pattern. The wavy and straight fishing lines are just one of the many differences. Geoffrey Godden was the first to highlight these differences in his book Caughley and Worcester Porcelains (1969).
