Footnotes
Geoffrey Godden has always advocated that the best way to learn about English porcelain is to form a reference collection of pieces from different makers, for it is only when placed side by side that significant differences become obvious. Lowestoft copied Worcester's crescent mark but their body and glaze are quite different. Caughley mastered the art of printing in underglaze blue and it is only through close examination that it is possible to tell this jug really is printed. Collectors have to make up their own minds as to which piece they prefer.
