A Lowestoft saucer dish, circa 1762-65

Of shallow form, finely moulded with a broad band of ribbing, a border of flowers and foliage painted in blue below the rim, the centre with a floral spray within a circular garland, 19cm diam (starcrack)

Footnotes

This rare dish belongs to a group of Lowestoft porcelains with ribbed borders, including the butter tureen, cover and stand, lot 127 and the rare coffee cup, lot 136 in this sale. The ribbing was perhaps inspired by contemporary Worcester productions. The border design on this dish is also seen on the oval stand for a butter tureen illustrated by Sheenah Smith, Lowestoft Porcelain in Norwich Castle Museum, no 638.
