Footnotes
One canister is illustrated by Geoffrey Godden, English Blue and White Porcelain (2004), pl 339, p 279 and frontispiece, and also in An Introduction to English Blue and White Porcelains (1974), pl. 13, fig. 68 and British Porcelain, an Illustrated Guide (1974), pl. 341. Both canisters are illustrated by Geoffrey Godden, Lowestoft Porcelains (1985), pl 67, p 71. The inscriptions on the ends indicate the type of tea that the vessel was designed to contain, Green or Gunpowder tea or Hyson tea. Others are recorded inscribed 'B TEA' and 'Super Fine'. Geoffrey Godden suggests that such pairs may have been designed to sit within a wooden tea caddy, perhaps with a mixing bowl such as that illustrated at pl 53, p 63
