A Bow large bell shaped mug, circa 1765-70

The grooved strap handle applied with a heart motif at the lower terminal, printed in blue with a Chinese building within a fenced garden, two figures visible in the window and two swans swimming in the water to the left, a fisherman in a sampan in the distance, and an island with a pagoda to the reverse, a cell border below the exterior rim, 14.1cm high (cracked and chipped)

Footnotes

Illustrated by Geoffrey Godden, English Blue and White Porcelain (2004), pl 66, p 62. The print is a more elaborate version of the design on the following lot in this sale. A similar design also appears on the Derbyshire bowl, attributed to Cockpit Hill, the previous lot in this sale and discussed by Geoffrey Godden, Blue Printed Derby, Derby Porcelain International Society Journal 6, 2009, p 173 where it is named 'Cantilevered Garden House'
