Footnotes

Provenance:
Private collection, California, USA.

A work executed in the same style was sold in these rooms, Islamic & Indian Art including Contemporary Indian and Pakistani Paintings, 13 October 2005, lot 271.

The work offered in October 2005 was from the collection of the late Austin Coates and appeared in an exhibition at the Alpha Gallery in Singapore in 1972.

In the exhibition catalogue the above mentioned was described as such: 'The Bridegroom's Procession, 1952. This is the pink period, which lasted for about four years. To hear of an artist having a pink period is enough to make most people shudder. In fact, this pink is like no other. It is an earthly pink, strong in expression and utterly devoid of sentimentality.'
