Meiji Period
The front of the rectangular panel featuring a rooster, hen and chicks feeding near blossoming peonies, reversed by butterflies hovering near flowering prunus entwined by clematis, the finely carved inlay incorporating coral, mother-of-pearl, tortoise shell and colored hardstone, with occasional dark pigment accents (losses, shrinkage).
