A massive Satsuma style earthenware vase

Meiji Period
The cylindrical body carved with three long recessed panels scattered with raised reserves of various shape, each painted in gilt and colored enamels with birds amid flowers or in a landscape, the surrounding ground with a pattern of 'dissolving' phoenix, a band of patterned lappets encircling the foot and on the sloping shoulder, the waisted neck with gold dragons and clouds flanked by geometric and foliate bands (restorations, wear).
