A massive Satsuma style earthenware covered jar

Of globular form, mounted with a pair of shishi-form handles, a shishi and ball knop atop the separate domical lid, and with a separate pedestal shaped as tiered disks supported by five shishi heads issuing scrolled feet; decorated in raised polychrome enamels and gilt with Tairo no Atsumori playing the flute on a beach reversed by the Queen Mother of the West holding a peach in a peony garden, and with further brocade patterns decorating the waisted neck, lid, and pedestal base (hairline crack).
